Language Access

The Chicago Police Department (CPD) is committed to ensuring that all individuals, regardless of the language they speak, have meaningful access to police services, information, and resources. Recognizing the diversity of Chicago’s communities, CPD has implemented a comprehensive Language Access Plan to support individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP). This commitment reflects the Department’s broader mission to provide fair, impartial, and professional policing while building trust and fostering transparency with all residents. By expanding interpretation and translation services, training personnel, and designating a dedicated Language Access Coordinator, CPD strives to remove language barriers and promote equitable access to public safety.

They develop and implement comprehensive language access policies and procedures, coordination of translation and interpretation services, quality assurance, personnel training, and community outreach. This position reflects CPD’s commitment to impartial, professional policing by ensuring equitable access to vital information, such as Miranda rights and public safety notices, regardless of the language spoken.
