Office of Constitutional Policing and Reform

Overview

The Chicago Police Department’s Office of Constitutional Policing and Reform is responsible for implementing recommendations from the Mayor’s Police Accountability Task Force and the reform measures outlined in the Consent Decree Agreement between the State of Illinois and the City of Chicago. The office oversees the Department’s commitment to constitutional and effective law enforcement; oversees the attainment and continued compliance of law enforcement accreditation for the Department; ensures that Department members are provided with the training, resources, and support needed to perform their jobs professionally and safely; and oversees the Department’s mental health and officer wellness services.

Additionally, the office coordinates and directs activities that specifically relate to criminal justice research and analysis and reporting; evaluates compliance with federal, state, and local laws in Department directives; researches, prepares, updates, and issues Department directives; identifies and implements the training needs of the Department; and provides field operations with support that is consistent with beat, district, and strategic operational planning activities.
