Operation Clean is a weekly initiative led by the Chicago Police Department’s Office of Community Policing in partnership with the Department of Streets and Sanitation, the Fire Department, Water Management, and other city agencies, alongside community organizations. Typically launched in response to acts of violence or major incidents, the program is designed to improve quality of life in underrepresented communities and provide direct support to marginalized groups.
Through active participation from families, residents, aldermen, and local leaders, Operation Clean delivers visible, hands-on improvements—repairing streetlights and potholes, restoring damaged buildings, removing graffiti, and clearing vacant lots. These efforts not only address immediate community needs but also build long-term safety, unity, and neighborhood pride. The program operates seasonally, running from late spring through the end of fall.
