CPD Robbery Task Force Apprehends Three in Citywide Pattern

CPD Robbery Task Force Apprehends Three in Citywide Pattern

April 25, 2025

Detectives from the Chicago Police Department’s Robbery Task Force and the Public Transportation Section worked together to clear a citywide robbery pattern that occurred in March. Three offenders have now been charged in connection to this robbery pattern.

In each of the robberies, multiple offenders approached victims on public transportation and demanded their property. During many of these robberies, a semi-automatic weapon was displayed and sometimes used to batter the victims.

During one incident that occurred on the CTA Blue Line on March 21, 2025, the offenders robbed two victims of their belongings. The offenders used one of the stolen phones to order a rideshare. After reaching their destination, the offenders hijacked the vehicle and robbed the driver of his wallet.

These robberies triggered a joint investigation between the Robbery Task Force and the Public Transportation detectives. Upon further investigation, these two robberies were linked to five other robberies that occurred earlier in the month. This investigation came to a swift conclusion because of the evidence the Public Transportation Section detectives and tactical teams already gathered while investigating the earlier cases.

A total of three offenders were charged in robberies related to this crime pattern. An 18-year-old male offender was charged with four felony counts of armed robbery with a firearm, one felony count of aggrvated vehicular hijacking with a firearm and three felony counts of robbery. A 17-year-old male offender was charged with three felony counts of armed robbery with a firearm, two felony counts of robbery and one felony count of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm. A second 17-year-old male offender was charged with three felony counts of armed robbery with a firearm and one felony count of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm.

This pattern would not have been cleared without the diligent work of the Robbery Task Force and Public Transportation Section. This is a true example of collaboration amongst bureaus within CPD to identify and apprehend violent offenders.
