On September 5, 2025 at 2:37 p.m., six masked males exited a vehicle and began to break the display windows of the Rolex Boutique on Michigan Avenue. The offenders snatched and stole several watches from the shattered displays before fleeing in the vehicle.
Immediately following the smash-and-grab, the Chicago Police Department’s Helicopter Unit observed the offending vehicle traveling through several areas of the city at a high rate of speed. Officers in the helicopter relayed information about the vehicle’s location to officers on the ground.
Equipped with this information, officers from the 7th (Englewood) District observed and began pursuing the vehicle until the vehicle stopped in the Englewood neighborhood. Each of the offenders exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers pursued the offenders on foot, with all six adult offenders taken into custody by 3:07 p.m., half an hour after the smash-and-grab occurred.
Four of the stolen watches were recovered from the offenders, the offending vehicle and in the immediate area where the offenders were taken into custody.
The offenders include a 33-year-old male, a 31-year-old male, a 24-year-old male, a 22-year-old male, a 21-year-old male and an 18-year-old male.
Each of the offenders was charged with:
- One felony count of Burglary
- One felony count of Criminal Damage to Property
- One felony count of Theft Between $100K-500K
The 33-year-old male offender was also charged with:
- One misdemeanor count of Reckless Driving
- One misdemeanor count of Fleeing/Attempting to Elude Officer
- One misdemeanor count of Driving on a Suspended License
Due to the quick and collaborative work of CPD members from the Helicopter Unit, 7th District and the Area 3 Detective Division, these offenders are being brought to justice.
