Three juveniles who committed five armed robberies in less than an hour have been charged with multiple felonies because of the collaboration between multiple units and bureaus within the Chicago Police Department.
The robbery spree, which began at 6:30 a.m. on June 12, 2025 in the Oakland community, started when the three juveniles, armed with a stun gun, approached a female victim and demanded her car keys. The offenders then left the scene in her vehicle, while leaving behind another vehicle that had been reported stolen from a surrounding suburb.
The offenders proceeded to commit four additional armed robberies using a stun gun, with the last armed robbery occurring at 7:10 a.m.
CPD’s Helicopter Unit began tracking the offenders from the air. As they were being tracked by the helicopter, the offenders crashed in the Riverdale neighborhood. They fled the vehicle and entered a nearby residence. CPD’s SWAT Team and patrol officers from the 5th (Calumet) District responded to the residence and placed all the offenders into custody.
In addition to information relayed to responding officers during each of the robbery incidents, the Citywide Robbery Task Force leveraged video evidence to track the offender’s movements during the robbery spree. This evidence, in addition to physical evidence, allowed the task force to secure charges against all three offenders.
A 13-year-old male offender, a 16-year-old male offender and a 17-year-old male offender have each been charged with:
- One felony count of Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking
- Three felony counts of Armed Robbery with a Firearm
- Four felony counts of Armed Robbery – Other Dangerous Weapon
- One felony count of Attempted Armed Robbery – Other Dangerous Weapon
- One felony count of Aggravated Battery in a Public Place
These arrests and the subsequent charges would not have been possible without the close coordination between members of CPD’s Bureau of Patrol, Bureau of Counterterrorism and Bureau of Detectives.
