Five offenders face felony gunrunning charges as part of a Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC) of Chicago firearms trafficking investigation. This investigation was a partnership between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Chicago Field Division, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, the Chicago Police Department and the Cook County Sheriff’s Police.
The offenders, which include four adults and one juvenile, were investigated for their involvement in a firearms trafficking organization responsible for the trafficking of multiple firearms and Machinegun Conversion Devices (MCDs) between Indianapolis, Ind. and Chicago, Ill.
During this investigation, 20 firearms and three MCDs were recovered. As a result of the close collaboration between the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and law enforcement partners, felony charges were secured.
A 19-year-old male was charged with:
- One felony count of Gunrunning 11-20 Firearms
- One felony count of Gunrunning
- One felony count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Machine Gun/Auto Weapon/Veh
- One felony count of Unlawful Sale of a Firearm by a Felon
An 18-year-old male was charged with:
- One felony count of Gunrunning 11-20 Firearms
- One felony count of Gunrunning
- One felony count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Machine Gun/Auto Weapon/Veh
A 23-year-old male was charged with:
- One felony count of Gunrunning 11-20 Firearms
- One felony count of Gunrunning
- One felony count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Machine Gun/Auto Weapon/Veh
- One felony count of IVC – Aggravated Feeling with Damage>$300 Property
An 18-year-old male was charged with:
- One felony count of Gunrunning 11-20 Firearms
- One felony count of Gunrunning
- One felony count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Machine Gun/Auto Weapon/Veh
A 17-year-old male was charged with:
- One felony count of Gunrunning 11-20 Firearms
- One felony count of Gunrunning
- Two felony counts of Selling Firearm/No Valid FOID
The CGIC is a centralized law enforcement hub that brings together federal, state and local law enforcement and prosecutorial partners to address gun violence and gun trafficking. The CGIC leverages technology to trace crime guns and link investigations more efficiently and effectively.
