Two offenders are now charged after being quickly apprehended following an armed robbery aboard a CTA bus in the 2500 block of S. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. on December 15, 2025.
A 26-year-old male victim related to officers that he was on a CTA bus when two offenders approached him, placed a sharp object to his neck and demanded his belongings. The victim gave the offender his belongings, including a cell phone and cash. The offenders then fled the bus.
A description of the offenders was broadcast over police radio. Officers who were responding to the armed robbery observed two individuals matching the description. These individuals were detained and positively identified as the offenders responsible for the armed robbery. The stolen items were also recovered by the responding officers.
These offenders were located within 15 minutes due to the observant and quick work by 1st District officers. In addition to the efforts of the patrol officers, CPD’s Citywide Robbery Task Force worked in collaboration with the Public Transportation Section’s Strategic Decision Support Center (SDSC) to obtain digital evidence that was important in securing charges against the offenders.
22-year-old Trayshawn Wheeler was charged with:
- One felony count of Armed Robbery with Other Dangerous Weapon
- One misdemeanor count of Obstructing Identification
- One Issuance of Warrant
20-year-old Malik Majali was charged with:
- One felony count of Armed Robbery with Other Dangerous Weapon
