18th District arrests ten for robbery aboard the CTA

January 30, 2025

Officers from the Chicago Police Department’s Public Transportation Section and the 18th District arrested nine juveniles and one adult for a robbery aboard the CTA Red Line on January 26, 2025. These officers located the offenders and the victims’ property within 15 minutes of the robbery being reported to the police.

The group of offenders approached a group of three male teenage victims who were riding the train in the 1100 block of S. State St. at approximately 9:30 p.m. One of the offenders implied he had a firearm and demanded the victims’ property. The group of offenders then battered the victims and took their property. The offenders remained on the train headed northbound, while the victims were made to leave the train car, and fled to report the robbery to a CTA employee.

A description of the offenders was read out on police radio. The Public Transportation Section, the 18th District, and CTA staff worked collaboratively to locate the offenders. The victims were able to track their phones to the Fullerton Red Line station, and the CTA was able to hold the train there. The 18th District took the offenders into custody on the street nearby. The belongings taken in the robberies were recovered and each offender was positively identified by the victims as a participant in the robbery.

Thanks to the officers’ investigative skills and quick actions, these individuals were charged with various offenses. Eight of these offenders were charged with felony robbery.
