Preliminary Statement of Police Involved Shooting in the 300 block of W. Division  

CHICAGO –  On Sunday, October 13, 2024, at approximately 6:50 p.m., Chicago Police Officers assigned to the 18th District attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 300 block of W. Division in regard to a person with a gun call. During the stop, the occupants refused verbal commands from officers and fled striking one of the police vehicles.  One (1) officer fired their service weapon in the direction of the vehicle. The vehicle then fled from officers and was later recovered in the 100 block of W. North Ave. One person of interest is in custody. No officers were injured and one (1) officer was transported to an area hospital for observation. No other injuries were reported. The Investigative Response Team is currently on the scene investigating.

The specifics of this incident, including the comprehensive use of force investigation, are being investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability with the full cooperation of the Chicago Police Department. The Officer(s) involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for a minimum period of 30 days.
