Marine Unit – M7 – Rescues Victim that fell in the Chicago River

On the afternoon of September 24, 2015  a young man was leaning over a guard rail along the State Street Bridge, enjoying the view of the Chicago River. The young man suffered a panic attack, lost his balance, and fell into the water. A tour boat operator observed the victim struggling to stay above water, and immediately notified the CPD Marine Unit via ship to shore radio (Channel 16). Officers on M7 responded and within minutes were able to pull the young man from the cold river. Because of the Marine Unit’s quick response the young man only suffered a bit of shock and hypothermia and was treated at an area hospital.
