Preliminary Statement on Police-Involved Shooting – In the 800 block of N. Cicero
CHICAGO – On Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at approximately 10:14 p.m., Chicago Police officers were attempting to stop a stolen vehicle wanted in connection with a vehicular hijacking from a neighboring suburb. As officers approached the vehicle, an offender fled on foot to the 800 block of N. Cicero, where an officer discharged his weapon, striking the offender. Officers immediately rendered aid to the offender who was transported to an area hospital for treatment in critical condition. At least one other suspect fled in the wanted vehicle which was later located unoccupied in the 3800 block of W. Monroe. There were no officers struck by gunfire. However, two officers were transported to an area hospital for observation and are listed in good condition.
Currently, the specifics of this incident, including the comprehensive use of force investigation, are being investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability with the full cooperation of the Chicago Police Department. The Officer(s) involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for a period of 30 days.
