Lopez was arrested by Officers when he was observed throwing a handgun into Lake Michigan on June 12th, 2016 on the 1400 block of S. Lynn White Dr. at approximately 7:50 p.m. Officers assigned to the Area Central Bike unit were on patrol when they observed Lopez standing with a group of people holding an alcoholic beverage in his hand. As the officers approached, Lopez walked towards the lake while reaching into his pants and removed a black handgun which he then threw into the lake. The CPD Marine unit was then dispatched to the location and a diver was able to recover the weapon from the water. Lopez, a convicted felon, was placed into custody and charged accordingly.
