Englewood Man Charged with Murder
Demarco Bennett was arrested after he was identified as the man who fired shots at a 26 year old man, fatally striking him. This incident occurred on December 13, 2015 in the 7200 block of S. May St. at approximately 10:05 a.m. Bennett fired shots at the victim as he was outside. He then fled the scene in a vehicle at a high rate of speed. Mayor Emanuel, Superintendent McCarthy Launch Police Recruitment Campaign
Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Superintendent Garry McCarthy today announced that the City is accepting applications to join the Chicago Police Department for the first time since 2013. The starting salary for Chicago police officers is $47,604 and increases to $72,510 after eighteen months of employment. The application period is now open, and will close at the end of the day on Wednesday December 16, 2015. A written exam will be administered in February 2016 to those who apply. This alert gives notice to residents of the 7th District (Englewood) of three strong armed robberies reported on Beats 711 and 723, around the vicinity of 63rd Street and Halsted Street. This alert gives notice that numerous residential burglaries have been reported on Beat 732. Entry is gained through a window or rear / front door(s) by force and various household items are taken. Places of worship have also been targeted, in that the alarm system wiring was cut in one incident and an industrial size air conditioning unit was taken in a separate incident. Chicago Police Officers Save Baby’s Life
On September 12, 2015, at approximately 8:08 p.m., a Sergeant along with two Chicago Police officers working “Operation Impact” observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the 6700 block of South Union. The vehicle quickly stopped and the officers were met by the female driver yelling “my baby, my baby” and observed the victim, a two year-old female in the vehicle unresponsive.
