    Jeremy Givens was arrested after he was identified as the person who fatally stabbed a 42 year old man. This incident occurred on December 24, 2015 at approximately 5:30 p.m. in the 300 block of W. 111th Pl. Given was involved in a verbal altercation with the victim when he stabbed the victim in the chest. He was taken to Christ Hospital where he was later pronounced. Givens was charged accordingly.     Tarell Smith,28 was arrested after he was identified as the man who shot a 23 year old female on October 29, 2015 at approximately 3:05 a.m. in the 12000 block of S. Perry Avenue. Smith was involved in a domestic related altercation with the mother of his children, when he shot her with a handgun.     Mayor Emanuel, Superintendent McCarthy Launch Police Recruitment Campaign

    Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Superintendent Garry McCarthy today announced that the City is accepting applications to join the Chicago Police Department for the first time since  2013. The starting salary for Chicago police officers is $47,604 and increases to $72,510 after eighteen months of employment. The application period is now open, and will close at the end of the day on Wednesday December 16, 2015. A written exam will be administered in February 2016 to those who apply.
