The Chicago Police Department’s Office of Victim Services is committed to supporting victims of crime with compassion, dignity, and respect. Our Victim Services team offers resources, guidance, and advocacy to help you navigate the aftermath of a crime and begin the journey toward healing and justice.

How We Can Help

Our dedicated Victim Services staff provides:

  • Crisis Support: Immediate support and assistance following a traumatic event.
  • Safety Planning: Strategies to help protect you and your loved ones.
  • Advocacy and Support: Guidance through the criminal justice process and help with filing police reports or orders of protection.
  • Referrals to Resources: Connection to local services, including counseling, legal aid, and housing assistance.
  • Victim Compensation Application Assistance: Help with completing crime victim compensation applications to access resources to cover medical bills, lost wages, and other crime-related expenses.

Know Your Rights

As a victim of crime in Illinois, you are entitled to certain rights under the Illinois Crime Victims’ Bill of Rights. These include:

  • The right to be treated with fairness, dignity, and respect
  • The right to notification about court proceedings
  • The right to make a statement at sentencing
  • The right to restitution from the offender
