The Chicago Police Department’s Area Three Detective Division, in partnership with the Chicago Transit Authority, has secured charges against a criminal sex abuse offender who was arrested within 11 hours of the crime occurring.
On January 27, 2026 at approximately 5:40 p.m., a 29-year-old female victim entered an elevator at the Jackson Red Line station. As the victim entered the elevator, a male offender entered behind her. Camera footage from the elevator shows the offender attempting to conceal the security camera upon entering. The victim told police the offender exposed himself and proceeded to commit a sex offense. He then grabbed the victim and forced his hands on her face.
Additional CTA security camera footage shows the offender running from the elevator following the crime and fleeing the area. CPD and CTA immediately issued an internal bulletin using images of the offender recovered from video evidence.
In the early morning hours of January 28, the day after the incident, a CTA supervisor recognized the offender from the bulletin while on the train platform at the Roosevelt station. CPD officers who were already patrolling the platform were approached by the supervisor. Due to the quick actions of the CTA supervisors and the officers, the offender, now identified as 29-year-old Kurtis Porter, was placed into custody.
With information provided by the victim and witnesses, as well as the video evidence from CTA’s vast camera system, detectives from the Area Three Detective Division secured charges in partnership with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Porter is now charged with one felony count of Criminal Sexual Abuse by Force and one felony count of Aggravated Battery Against a Transit Passenger.
