The Chicago Police Department (CPD) today released its status report for the 12th Independent Monitoring Period (IMR-12), highlighting the progress CPD made in its reform and consent decree compliance efforts, including in the key areas of community engagement and officer wellness. The report covers the six-month period between January 1, 2025 and June 30, 2025.
In the area of community engagement, CPD continued to build stronger bonds between officers and residents by hosting Community Training Observation Days at the Joint Public Safety Training Center during IMR-12. Community members in attendance received some of the same classroom and scenario-based training each of CPD’s officers receives as part of their 40-hours of annual mandatory in-service training. These observation days allow community members to learn directly from the department’s training officers, while also giving them an opportunity to better understand the quickly-evolving situations police officers experience.
Throughout IMR-12, CPD also continued to invest in wellness resources available to officers. CPD developed the 2025 Officer Wellness Support Plan to establish a long-term foundation for wellness in the coming years. The 2025 Suicide Prevention Strategy and the 2025 Officer Wellness Communication Strategy were also created to reduce officer suicide, emphasize outreach and break stigmas surrounding mental health. Additionally, CPD appointed an additional Chaplain focused on supporting the well-being of officers throughout the department.
