The 11th District is made up of the following neighborhoods: Humboldt Park, West Garfield Park, North Lawndale, East Garfield Park, Near West Side, and Austin. It includes Garfield Park Conservatory and Garfield Park and Field House.

Meet your commander – Johnny Tate
Commander Tate, a 29-year member of the Department, previously served as a Lieutenant in Area Four Violent Crimes. Prior to this, he was a Lieutenant in the Bureau of Internal Affairs Confidential Investigations Section and a Watch Operations Lieutenant in the 005th (Calumet) District. While a Sergeant, Commander Tate spent more than a decade in the Bureau of Detectives, working on the Investigative Response Team as well as the Area Two Detective Division where he supervised officer involved shooting, homicide, and violent crime investigations. He was also a Sergeant in the 004th (South Chicago) District. Commander Tate holds a master’s degree in Criminal Law from DePaul University, a master’s degree in Law Enforcement Administration from Calumet College of St. Joseph, a master’s degree in Business Administration from St. Xavier University and a bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement Management from Calumet College of St. Joseph. He is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from DePaul University. He also attended the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command. With nearly 30 years of experience in law enforcement, I’m committed to transparency, integrity, and building lasting community trust. From working with youth outreach programs, faith based communities, violence interrupters, business owners, community stakeholders, political partners, to improving neighborhood patrols, every step we take is about making Chicago safer and stronger together. Dedicated to protecting and serving our community with integrity, accountability, empathy, and compassion.
