Chicago Police Department leverages partnership to secure more than 30 felony charges in connection to a robbery spree and attempted murder of an off-duty police officer

Following a nine-month investigation, the Chicago Police Department, in close partnership with the Lansing Police Department, has secured more than 30 felony charges against two offenders responsible for a robbery spree that included the attempted murder of an off-duty CPD officer.

Two 21-year-old male offenders have both been charged in connection to multiple robbery-related incidents that occurred on July 23, 2024. That morning, the two offenders attempted to rob and vehicular hijack a 42-year-old female victim in the 10900 block of S. Oakley Ave. in the Morgan Park neighborhood. Just minutes later, the offenders shot at an off-duty CPD officer during another attempted vehicular hijacking and robbery nearby in the 10800 block of S. Campbell Ave.

Earlier in the morning, prior to the incidents that occurred in Chicago, the two offenders started their spree by committinh two robberies and vehicular hijackings in Lansing, Illinois.

During this investigation, detectives also connected one of the offenders to multiple robberies that occurred the day before, on July 22, 2024. This offender was charged in:

  • The aggravated vehicular hijacking of a 26-year-old female victim and a 30-year-old male victim in the 6700 block of S. Morgan St. in the Englewood neighborhood
  • The armed robbery of a 62-year-old female victim in the 7900 block of S. Campbell Ave. in the Ashburn neighborhood
  • The armed robbery of a 75-year-old male victim in the 2800 block of W. 79th St. in the Ashburn neighborhood

  • The armed robbery of a 39-year-old male victim and a 41-year-old male victim in the 2700 block of W. 80th St. in the Ashburn neighborhood

CPD detectives were able to bring justice to the victims in these cases because of the coordination both internally and externally. Throughout the investigation, the Investigative Response Team worked closely with the Citywide Robbery Task Force, the Lansing Police Department and CPD’s SWAT Team within the Bureau of Counterterrorism. In addition to the diligent work of these officers and detectives, the investigation moved forward because of the information the victims were able to relay to detectives and video evidence that was provided by community members. Digital evidence was also vital in this investigation.

In collaboration with the U.S. Marshal Great Lakes Regional Task Force and the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Felony Review Unit, the offenders were arrested and charged.

The offender, who is a convicted felon, responsible in each of the crimes that occurred on both July 22, 2025 and July 23, 2025 was charged with:

  • One felony count of Attempted First Degree Murder
  • Eight felony counts of Armed Robbery with a Firearm
  • Five felony counts of Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking with a Firearm
  • Four felony counts of Aggravated Robbery – Indicated Armed with a Firearm

At the time of their arrest for these cases, both offenders were already in the custody at Cook County Jail for previous robberies they committed within Chicago. The new charges they are facing reflect the harm and trauma that these offenders inflicted on the victims. Just as they did in this investigation, CPD’s detectives and officers will continue to seek justice for all crime victims.
