On January 16, 1996, David Sanchez was on his way to meet a friend at Piotroski Park located at 4247 W. 31st Street. According to his friends, David Sanchez spent a good amount of time at Piotroski Park working out and studying martial arts. David was not a member of a gang. Within fifteen minutes of leaving his home, David was shot in the vicinity of 4233 W. 30th St. Witnesses indicate that a vehicle containing unknown males stopped at this location. On March 1, 1996, William English was sitting with friends in the basement of a home located on the 5100 block of West 63rd Place when a male subject entered the home and proceeded to the basement. This male subject proceeded to display a handgun and shoot at the occupants of the basement. One of English's friends sustained a non-life-threatening wound however William English was shot several times and expired from his injuries. On 07 Nov 1980, at approximately 6:30 AM, the body of Olivia Rodriguez was discovered on the street at 6220 S. Sayre, less than a block from her home. Olivia had just left her home to go to her place of employment at a local Denny’s restaurant. Olivia had suffered multiple stab wounds. On October 13,1997, at approximately 10:30 pm, LeeAndre Johnson was shot and killed by an unknown offender. LeeAndre, who was also known as "Sleepy", was in the area of 56th and Indiana when he was shot. LeeAndre ran to a nearby church where he died from his injuries. A witness indicated he saw a male black subject running from the scene and jump into the passenger side of a white or beige subcompact vehicle. The victim, Wayland Maurice Bennett and a friend were standing on the corner of Cottage Grove and 43rd St, waiting for a bus. They were approached on foot by two black males and a black female. Wayland and his friend were asked by one of the male offenders, "What's up homey?" or "Hey homey, where you all from?" Before either of them could answer, one of the male subjects produced a handgun and opened fire. Wayland died as a result of his injuries. His friend was struck once in the middle of his back. The victim, John Pate, a resident of Crest Hill, IL., was employed by a private contractor as a security guard at the complex of federal buildings in the south loop. According to family and friends, he occasionally lingered in that area after completing his shift at around 0100, sometimes stopping in one or another of the taverns to socialize. He was last seen in a bar in the 700 block of South State St. in the very early morning hours of 26 May 1998. A few hours later, his body was discovered by a citizen walking her dog in the vicinity of 900 S. La Salle St. At that time, this was an undeveloped area sometimes used for overflow parking. A stolen commercial vehicle was recovered adjacent to the body. The victim’s automobile, a white 1998 Geo Metro, was found that morning burning in a similarly undeveloped area in North Chicago, IL. On 3 July 1998, 17-year-old Martiz Cole was standing on the street, talking to several friends sitting in a car in the 5900 block of South Laflin Street. A vehicle pulled up next to Martiz at which time a male subject in the newly-arrived vehicle fired several shots at Martiz, causing several fatal wounds. The witnesses provided a description of the fleeing vehicle, that being a late model 1980s black, 4-door Dodge. On December 19th, 1981, Maria Luisa Santiago was discovered stabbed to death in her apartment on the 1600 block of Huron Street in Chicago, IL. The victim was found by a friend who came to meet her for a planned shopping trip. When police arrived at the apartment, it was also discovered that the victim's 7 year old daughter had been stabbed several times as well. The victim's daughter was immediately taken to the hospital and ultimately survived the attack. The victim's friend told police that she spoke with Maria Santiago on the telephone earlier that day. During the late evening hours on 21 December 1998, Steven Belcher was on his way home from work and waiting at the bus stop near Pulaski and Fillmore. An employee in the area heard several gunshots and proceeded to the area where he believed he heard the shots. He found the victim lying on the sidewalk and observed two male subjects run from the area and enter a mid-sized vehicle parked near the scene. The two unknown men quickly drove away from the area.
